Hello Columbine Community!

As we head into another exciting week at Columbine, there are several important ways for families to stay connected to our school community!

Student Data Reports: This week, student data reports came home in Thursday folders. We encourage you to take some time to review this information—it provides an important snapshot of your child’s learning and skills so far this year. These reports are one of the many ways we work to keep families informed and empowered as partners in their child’s learning.

Fall Conferences: Conferences begin this week on October 1st and continue next week on October 6th! This is a wonderful opportunity to sit down with your child’s teacher, celebrate their strengths and progress, talk about areas for continued growth, and make a plan for how we can work together throughout the year. If you haven’t signed up for a conference yet, please be sure to do so. Our teachers can’t wait to connect with you!

Save the Date: Fall Festival — This year, Fall Festival will be a two day event: a community movie night on Friday, October 16 and the Festival on Saturday, October 17th. Please save the date and be on the lookout for more details to come!

Reminder, no school on Monday, September 28th. We will see everyone on Tuesday, September 29th.

Thank you for continuing to show up, stay engaged, and partner with us.

This week in CREW

This week in Crew we are focusing on:  A Week of Reflection

We will be reflecting on our learning and engagement so far in crew this year. We will reflect on our September Crew Topics.

Learning Target Ideas:

I can honestly reflect on my leadership goals

I can describe my strengths and next steps as a leader

I can explain how I show leadership at Columbine.

We are still focused on Hispanic Heritage Month!

We hope you all will join us for our special TWO-day event this year. We will start on October 16th with a Movie Night on the Columbine Field. We will follow that with our Fall Festival on Saturday, October 17th. This is one of our favorite events as it brings the whole community together for games, fun, pumpkins, and connection.

Some notes: during movie night and the Fall Festival, we ask that if your child uses the restroom, an adult accompanies them into the building. And as a reminder, no dogs are permitted on school grounds and no alcohol, drugs, or tobacco can be consumed on school property.

Save the DATE for our FALL FESTIVAL!

Conferences

Fall conferences are coming up this week and next! If you haven’t already, please be sure to sign up for a conference time with your child’s teacher using this link.

Before your conference, we encourage you to review the student data report that came home in Thursday folders. Taking a few minutes to preview your child’s current data will help you come ready to celebrate their growth, ask questions, and partner with their teacher around goals and next steps.

We look forward to connecting with you and talking together about your child’s learning and growth!

Attendance - 94% Last Week

Attendance MATTERS! At Columbine, we want our students here learning every day! Arriving on time and staying until the end of the day ensures your child receives every minute of necessary instruction and crew connections. This year, we have an attendance incentive! Each day when our classes have 95% attendance or better, they earn and ice cream scoop! When the crews get to 10 scoops, they get an ice cream sundae party!

This week, our overall school attendance percentage was 94%.

26-27 Collaborative School Committee

We had our first CSC meeting of the year on Thursday, September 17th.

Here are the meeting minutes in English and Spanish

Additionally here is the deck we used to share information.

CSC will be meeting the third Thursday of each month from 5:00-6:15. We will always have a virtual participation option with this same link each month.

Our next CSC meeting will be on October 15th from 5:00-6:15pm

Recess Parent Volunteer Opportunitiy

We’re excited to continue our recess parent volunteer opportunity at Columbine this year, and we’d love for you to join us! As a recess volunteer, you are not only helping our staff dedicate more time to academics and student needs, but it’s also a fantastic way to engage with your child and their classmates during recess.

As a volunteer, you’ll sign up for one 45-minute shift per month (on the same day each month that works for your schedule) and you will help to supervise students on the playground, engaging in fun playground activities (when appropriate), and assisting with the overall flow of outside time. It's a wonderful chance to connect with the school community while supporting the overall school experience.

If you’re interested in learning more, please fill out this form by Tuesday, Sept 22nd, and we’ll follow up with more details. If you have any specific questions, feel free to reach out to Taylor Johnson at tvitale777@gmail.com. Please note that all volunteers will need to attend a 30-minute virtual Zoom training, and will need to have a current background check on file with DPS.

Thank you so much for considering this opportunity to make a positive impact at Columbine!

A Note from the PTA

Thank you to all who attended our first meeting after BTSN! If you were unable to attend, it's not too late! You can catch up on what we talked about here and join us anytime!

Cougar Crew Heros need YOU!

If you would like to help support our teachers this year, please join our Cougar Crew Hero team (formerly Room Heros).  Crew Heros will work directly with teachers on small projects throughout the year and the time commitment is approximately two hours per month,  Please know you are not required to join the PTA to be a Crew Hero and there is no financial commitment to help support our staff.

Fall Festival is upon us!

This year, Fall Festival will be a two day event: a community movie night on Friday, October 16 and the Festival on Saturday, October 17th.  If you would like to join the planning committee, join our virtual meeting on Wednesday, September 16th at 5pm! Can't join the meeting, but still want to help out and/or sponsor an event, please email columbinecougarspta@gmail.com.

Monthly PTA Meetings

Our monthly PTA meetings will be held the first Wednesday of each month at 6pm in the library.  The next meeting will be October 7th; dinner, childcare as well as a virtual option will always be provided!

Gifted and Talented (GT) Cognitive Testing - ECE, Kinder, 2nd, 3rd, 4th grade - deadline 10/2

Does your child learn new things very rapidly? Is he/she exceptionally curious, often seeking new challenges? Perhaps your child is demonstrating gifted and talented (GT) characteristics.  The fall GT cognitive testing nomination window is now open for families who are seeking Gifted and Talented (GT) identification and/or placement at a Highly Gifted Magnet Site. Interested families should submit this nomination form by October 2nd. If you have questions, contact Karen Wagner, GT Teacher at  karen_wagner@dpsk12.org or (720) 663-0396 (phone/text).  Check out the DPS GT Family Website for more information and resources.

*Note - if your child is in 1st or 5th grade, there is no need to submit a nomination form. Your child will be tested through GT universal screening. Please refer to the information shared by your child’s teacher.
