Hello Columbine Community,

If you are new to our community, Welcome to Columbine! We are so thrilled to have you in the crew and we are ready and excited for a wonderful school year. I hope you and your families are enjoying a beautiful summer! I sure miss your kiddos and can’t wait to reconnect with everyone. As we gear up for a new school year, I wanted to share some highlights from my own summer adventures and express how thrilled I am to start the new school year.

This summer, I spent time on The Georgian Bay in Canada with my family. For those who know me, lakes are a big part of my summer joy and this was exactly what my heart needed. In addition to my time by the lake, I also enjoyed time in Grand Lake, CO with mountain time combined with lake life (the dream!). These experiences have left me refreshed and eagerly anticipating the year ahead. I will be adding a new role at Columbine this year for myself. Not only will I be the leader, but I will also be a Columbine mom as my 3-year-old Abigail will be joining the ECE 3 crew!

I want to express an enthusiastic Crew Welcome to our new staff:

ECE 4 – Jamie Sohan

Kindergarten (new class!) – Kelsea Young

1st Grade (new class!) – Caitlin Goldsmith

2nd Grade – Meredith Burger

3rd Grade- Anna Naranjo

4th Grade- Danielle Zuroweste

5th/STL (new class!) – Kayla Shea-Lewis

I also want to be sure you all are connected with our amazing Columbine Instructional Leadership Team (ILT):

Rachel Shea- Dean of Instruction

Holly Comstock – Senior Team Lead / Literacy Intervention

Julia Puckett – Senior Team Lead / 5th Grade Literacy Teacher

Kayla Shea-Lewis – Senior Team Lead / 5th Grade Math/Science Teacher

Some of you have been able to log into Parent Portal and see your student’s teacher assignments. A few of our new teachers are still getting fully loaded into the system so if you see TBD, it is likely one of our new teachers. Additionally, this year I received an all time high of over 20 teacher requests and friend placement requests from families. As much as I would love to be able to give each family their preference for their child, there is a lot that goes into class placement decisions. At the end of each school year, our staff spend time looking at our students and determining balanced class lists based on multiple factors and with input from our special service providers and leadership teams. For this reason, making changes based on parent requests interferes with the process our team goes through, which is why I cannot honor these requests for each family. I hope you understand this and can place trust in our whole school team to provide the best experience for your child.

All of our summer construction and updates have been hitting fantastic deadlines! Our library is looking absolutely beautiful with new paint, carpet, book shelves, furniture, and books installed already!
