Community Newsletter 10/6/24

Posted October 7, 2024

Happy Sunday Columbine Community,

We have a short week ahead of us! On October 10th, 11th, and 14th there is no school for students. We hope you enjoy this Fall Break with some beautiful weather and time with family.

Last week on Monday, our CSC met and discussed our UIP, Student Enrollment, and Progress Monitoring benchmarks throughout the year. To access our CSC meeting minutes, agendas, and guidance documents, please visit the CSC page on our website. All CSC meetings are open to the public and the last 15 minutes are all dedicated to public comment. On Monday during Coffee with Corey I will review some of the items that came up in CSC.

Celebrity Crossing Guard on Walk/Roll to School Day!

National Walk/Roll to School Day is Wednesday, October 9th. On this day, we will have special celebrity guests assisting our crossing guards, Mr. Jose and Mr. Roy. Please help us celebrate by traveling to school using “active transportation.”

We are excited to announce that our celebrity crossing guard will be: Stewart Tucker Lundy alongside Marci Cherri Lundy  and Tree King of 89.3 KUVO Mid-morning Jazz.

Walk, ride your bike, use your wheelchair, scooter, skateboard, or ride RTD on October 9th to receive a raffle ticket to win a special lunch with the principal. If you need to drive to school, please park one or more blocks away from the school and come through the main crosswalk to receive your raffle ticket. Our goal is to have everyone use human-powered transportation on this day! More than 35 DPS schools are participating in this event. Together we can create a healthy community!

Wednesday October 9th is our second night of Conferences. Conferences are a critical and wonderful opportunity for families and teachers to be in partnership discussing student’s genius, learning more about what brings students joy, and speaking to the commitments of support we will make to ensure student growth and achievement. If you have not signed up for a spot yet with your child’s teacher, please be sure to do so.

On Wednesday of last week, our Facilities Crew was SO loved and celebrated on School Custodian Appreciation Day. Thank you to all who supported and participated in recognizing our facilities crew Brennan, Antonio, Sandra, and Angie.

From now until October 15th, we will continue recognizing and celebrating HIspanic / LatinX heritage month. Our crews are hard at work on their art projects that will all come together to create our school Offerenda. October also brings us Disability and Dyslexia Awareness Month. Our multicultural team will send communication about how our crew and our school will be recognizing and learning this month.

Coffee with Corey☕ – I have added a few Coffee with Coreys to the calendar to increase the touchpoints I have with you all to answer questions and share information. The dates are Monday, October 7th, Tuesday, October 22nd, Friday, November 8th, Thursday, November 21st. On Monday, October 7th I will share what I know and what I have learned about the Declining Enrollment Engagement Sessions and process/timeline.

In Crew,

📚Our Library is OPEN!! 📚

The equipment is HERE, the volunteers are TRAINED, the books are SHELVED, and the library is officially launching for a full schedule this week. We are so thankful for our volunteers who have done two training sessions with library services and to our AMAZING teacher, volunteer, and parent Kristen Holligan who has led the way to get our library up and running. While we have some regular volunteers, there may be some weeks when they are unable to fill their spot, please be on the lookout for a sign-up genius if you’re ever interested in jumping in!.
