Community Update 4/5/24

Posted April 8, 2024

Hello Columbine Community,

We had an incredible week at school. On Wednesday, we had a whole-school assembly with local legend Cleo Parker Robinson, whose portrait can be seen in the mural on the southeast side of our building. Cleo is the founder, director, and choreographer for Cleo Parker Robinson Dance Ensemble. She is the recipient of many awards and recognitions, and has made historical contributions to our community and around the world. Cleo’s sibling attended Columbine and she was thrilled to be back in the building to connect with our students and speak about her own journey with positive mindset. She got us all up and dancing, smiling, and moving.

Big News!

After looking at our round 1 choice numbers, current enrollments, and accepted seats, we are going to be expanding our kindergarten to 3 classrooms. As many of you know, our kindergarten classes this year were quite large. As a small school we value our smaller class sizes, but we also know how enrollment impacts our school budget and ability to provide our students with abundant resources. I’m so proud and excited to see the enthusiasm for Columbine and the growing enrollment we are seeing each year.

Please note our upcoming events as they go through the end of the year and include our big events such as Better World Day, Columbine Gives Day, Fun Run/Field Day, and Continuations!

On April 11th at 1:00pm we are SO excited to be joined by the Denver Police Copsicle Cruiser! They will be outside at dismissal to hand out popsicles to students. Learn more here about the Copsicle Cruiser.

Columbine Community Inclusion Night

On April 15th from 5:30-7:30, Rana Razzaque, Director of Opportunity, Access, and Inclusion for Englewood Schools will be leading us alongside Dr. Ellen Miller-Brown in the next steps of this work. Now that many of you have your IDPs (intercultural development plans) we are ready for some facilitated and individual learning opportunities. While this session will follow up on many of the components of the IDI, this session is open to and would benefit anyone who is interested in participating. Please come join us even if you did not attend the first sessions!

We will be in the cafeteria for this event and will be providing childcare and dinner!

CMAS TESTING

On April 8th we will begin CMAS testing for grades 3rd, 4th, and 5th. Testing will be taking place from 8:45-10:45 roughly on April 8th, 9th, and 10th. And will then continue on April 15th, 16th, and 17th , concluding with just 5th grade Science on April 22nd and 23rd. In order to support our testing students, please be sure send your students to school on time and filled with good sleep and a full breakfast. Students can, as always, get breakfast at school as well.
