Hello Columbine Community,
A new month means a new LEAP focus! March brings us to Ambition!
Thank you all to joined us for Coffee this morning and got to meet our Interim Principal Suzanne Morris-Sherer (Ms. Mo-She). Here is an intro letter from Suzanne for anyone who was unable to join us.
Safety Reset
We feel this is a good time of year to reset some of our safety protocols and requests of families.
-As a reminder, no adults should enter the building through any door other than our front office.
– We ask that if your child is in Kindergarten-5th grade, you allow them to walk themselves down to class in the morning and that pick up takes place outside.
-If you come to pick up your child early, we will call the teacher and ask them to send your child down to the office.
-If you do need to go down the hallway to a classroom, please make sure you always get a visitor badge from the office. So many of you do such a great job of this and we thank you!
Getting Ready for the School Year: Immunizations
The Colorado Department of Public Health & Environment (CDPHE) collects unidentifiable immunization data every year from every school, statewide. Per Senate SB20-163, DPS is required to share your school’s MMR immunization
data and the requirements and exemption rules for the upcoming year. Please click on the letters below to learn more: ECE.
Summer Connections
Registration is now open for Summer Connections, a fun five weeks where students will be exposed to content from their upcoming grade. All rising first through fifth-grade DPS students are encouraged to apply!
It is no cost to families. Full-day programming from June 12-July 14. No school on June 19 and July 4. They offer Literacy, Math, Science, and hands-on learning. Registration is now open! Visit Parent Portal to sign up. We encourage families to commit to the full five-week program. If you have any questions, please contact EAL@dpsk12.net.

EL TeamOur EL Team met Wednesday, 3/1 to review highlights and upcoming support that we can provide to enhance our EL learning modules for each grade level. Here are the minutes from the meeting. Recent Highlights and Wins from our EL Team:Yesterday, 2nd grade went on a field trip to the Morrison Natural History Museum and were able to learn from paleontologists, touched fossils found right here in Colorado, helped hands-on uncover fossils out of rock and took a local hike to see where these animals and dinosaurs once roamed. This helps support and enhance our students EL Module and dive deeper into becoming experts! Learn more about this EL Module here – Learning through Science & Story: Fossils Tell of Earth’s Changes The 3rd graders wrapped up their EL module on frogs and were able to learn about observational drawings. They created scientific drawings of the frogs that they individually researched. Using their artwork and exciting facts and research from the unit, they were able to create “Freaky Frog” trading cards – to trade with each other and learn from their classmate’s research, as well! Please check out these virtual Celebrations of Learning links from the 4th Grade & 5th Grade, as they have been studying Animal Defense Mechanisms and the Biodiversity in the Rainforest, in their respective EL modules! Please also feel free to add encouraging comments and feedback to our budding scientists and researchers!
