Columbine Community Update 8/26/22

Posted August 29, 2022

Happy Friday Columbine Community,

What a wonderful first week of school!

We are so thrilled to have our building filled with students, staff, and families. This week we learned all about LEAP (Leadership, Empathy, Ambition, and Positive Mindset) and discussed how we show PAWS all around our building. Please use these LEAP and PAWS graphics to practice these critical languages at home with your cougar kiddo. We also hold Crew time with our Columbine Cougars every morning to develop relationships and social emotional skills. Please ask your child about Crew time and what they do in Crew each day!

New Family Night

We have some school events coming up that we hope you will participate in! The first is our New Family Night which will take place on Thursday, September 1st from 5:00-6:00 pm. This event is for all families but will focus on giving information to our new families with opportunities for asking and answering questions. This is a chance to learn more about EL, our school wide systems, and our school history. We will provide a link for anyone who needs to attend virtually and we will be sure to record and distribute the session in case you can not attend.

Back to School Night

The next event is Back to School Night which will take place on Thursday, September 8th. This event will take place from 5:00-6:00 pm and we encourage all families to attend. All families will start in the auditorium at 5:00

and then transition to classrooms. There will be two sessions for each class so that families with multiple kids can attend all sessions. The classroom sessions will be from 5:15-5:35 and 5:40-6:00.

Safety of our Campus

Thank you so much to all families who are dropping students off at our exterior doors and to our families who are checking in at the office each

morning. As a reminder, ECE families do not need to check in to the office  each morning, however, all other families should always have a visitor badge on if you are going anywhere in the building past the front office.

In addition we ask all families to ensure that we are in compliance with DPS school policies by:

  •  Staying off the playground/blacktop during the student’s school day
  •  Remembering that our school campuses are drug and tobacco free zones at all times. This includes inside and outside our school building.
  • If you are on campus, at no point in time should there be visible tobacco or recreational items including vape pens.
  • Keeping dogs at home. While we dearly love our furry friends, our school campuses are also dog free to ensure the safety of our students and the cleanliness of our grounds.

Columbine Collaborative School Committee (CSC)

We have two family positions to fill on our CSC. Please learn more about CSC here and reach out to Corey if you are interested in serving on CSC this year!
