My name is Carolina Bacallao and I will be teaching second grade literacy at Columbine Elementary. I have taught 1st grade for the past three years in Denver Public Schools and am excited to make the switch to second grade. I grew up in Miami, Florida and am a first generation American with Cuban roots. I received my Bachelor's degree from the University of Florida and my master's degree from the University of Denver. Before becoming a teacher I taught English as a Second Language to adults at a non-profit in Wyoming and I was also a paraprofessional for two years serving students in all grade levels. I student taught for a full year with the Denver Teacher Residency program in second and third grade at Cole Arts and Science Academy as well.
I cannot wait to begin teaching at Columbine this upcoming school year with such a collaborative and diverse staff. I believe that every child deserve the best education possible and I am going to do everything in my power to assure that the students at Columbine receive one.
When I am not teaching, I love to cook, read, hike, ski, listen to music and ride my bike.
